Quilt Love

Last week I had two quilts return from the quilters..... I was so excited to get to this one back that I got the whole bind done in one evening!

I started this quilt back here almost a year ago now and I can't believe it took me so long to replace one diamond which had a cut in it and join the backing.... it's finally done and is now one of my all-time favourite quilts that I've made.... I just love it!

It looks lovely on Miss 13's bed.... along with her pillows she made from the scraps.

I love the pattern the quilter used.....
I always leave it up to her to choose and she hasn't let me down yet.

As you can see it's quite a large quilt.... as well as increasing the size of the diamond by an inch in length and width I also made it four times the size of the original baby quilt pattern by The Quilted Fish.

First one down

I haven't been participating in many challenges or swaps over the last 12 months but I decided to join the Club Quilt 2013 challenge - 'It's a Redwork Christmas' by Rosalie Quinlan in the hope that it will get me sewing a bit more.

And now that my 'secret stitching' is under control I've managed to make some progress.
Rather than using all red thread I've chosen a lovely Cottage Garden Thread called 'Gumboot'.

First block completed and second one underway!

A busy fortnight

I've stitched so much in the last two weeks that my fingers have been almost continually numb.... unfortunately I can only give you a sneak peak at this stage as I don't want to ruin the surprise!

As well as stitching I've made almost three dozen jars of Green Tomato Pickles.
These are a favourite in our household..... Yummo!

Hard to believe tomatoes this green could taste good isn't it??

I also made a delicious carrot cake with cream cheese icing for one of my husbands workers who has now retired..... we had a bit of a send-off for him last Saturday night.
I was very pleased with how it turned out (my icing skills are definately improving.... Yay me!).

A little something for me

I don't make a lot of clothing (especially for myself) as I'm often disappointed with the result and they get shoved in the back of the cupboard and never see the light of day. Not the case with this blouse which I wore on Australia Day last weekend......

The pattern was the Diane Kimono Dress from Serendiptiy Studios which I bought here.... I made the tunic length but I now have plans to make a couple of knee length ones which will be perfect for our next beach holiday! The pattern was very well written and my shirt went together beautifully with no stress (gotta love that).

And who's Australia Day would be complete without a lamington feast?
I made this cake using the recipe here....Mine doesn't look as pretty but it was delicious!

Until next time....
