German Apple Cake

I've been searching for a nice apple cake recipe now for some time and while I've found a couple that are pretty good they're just not quite what I'm after....... this one that I made on the weekend is exactly what I was looking for! It was so good!

The recipe came from one of my favourite blogs....
you can find it here at 'A Spoonful of sugar' thanks to Lisa & Sarah

Enjoy!

One for me

I've finally managed to get my apron finished..... feeling very fancy now when I'm cooking up a storm in the kitchen. The pattern is 'The Emmeline Apron' by Sew Liberated.... love it!

And it's reversible too!

Another one

I always seem to have runs on making things..... and at the moment it's aprons! This one is a housewarming gift for a friend of mine.... hope she likes it!

I love all the little sayings on this fabric.....
like, 'You had me at Merlot' and 'T.G.I.F Thank God I'm Fabulous'
Must get busy and finish my apron now!

Mmmm cake!

I was recently asked to make a birthday cake for the children of someone I work with..... I was really pleased when they wanted a rainbow cake as I've been seeing lots of them around blog-land and was keen to have a go at one myself.

I kept the decoration on the outside simple....
just piped buttercream and some bunting with the children's names on it.

You can find the printable bunting template here.

And the best part was the inside....
I was so happy with how all the colours turned out.

Here they are all stacked up ready for icing

Just Because

After seeing how well Master 11's apron turned out back here, I thought I'd make another one for one of my little nieces... with a few girly adjustments of course -

I couldn't resist this cute cherry fabric and of course polka dots!

I hope Miss 7 likes it!

My Disney Princess

It seems most of the sewing going on in our household lately is by the kids - I've haven't been getting much of a look in at all. I had intended to do some sewing of my own on this particular day but Miss 14 had grand plans (thanks Pinterest) which of course had no pattern..... needless to say, I spent the day drafting up a pattern for her and guiding her on how to put it all together. Totally worth it don't you think?

A Snow White apron - that looks like a dress.....
never too grown up to be a Disney princess!

She especially wanted one that went all the way around.....
No more floury hand prints on her backside!

Show Stuff

Not one to be left out..... Master 11 did some sewing of his own for the show and came how with several first placings himself. He was pretty chuffed.

An apron....made from camo of course!

A pyjama bag with machine applique

A sock frog

A pencil case

He also entered quite a bit of cooking. I especially loved his gingerbread house....
he spent hours on this one & his class certainly enjoyed helping him smash it after the show!

Critters everywhere

Miss 14 has been busy lately with her Sock critters - they've been selling really well in the coffee shop where she works so she's had to do quite a bit of re-stocking! Unfortunately I've missed taking photos of a lot of them but I did manage to get some before they all went out the door.

3 Little Kittens

Dinosaurs

Monsters

And of course a Monkey - which is how they all started!
She's keeping this one.

Piglets

An Alpacca

One big happy sock family!

A friend for Lucy

This version of the Country Keepsakes 'Totti' doll was made by Miss 14. It was her who originally purchased the pattern but instead of making it on her own It's usually easier to make one each so that if there's anything tricky in the pattern she can just follow along with me.

Meet May-Bell - How cute is she?

Meet Lucy

Meet Lucy..... the newest addition to our household:

Miss 14 and I really seem to be drawn to Country Keepsakes dolls.... they're the only ones either of us have made. This patten is called 'Totti' - isn't she sweet?

I think I'll be keeping her for myself!

Champion quilt

This jelly roll race quilt was made by Miss 14 from a very special jelly roll that had belonged to my Aunty Linda. She was delighted that it earnt her a champion ribbon at the local show recently which certainly made the very late night beforehand when she was madly stitching the binding down worth the rush.

They're not colours I would normally use for a quilt but they look great don't they?

Minion Cake

Well here we are well into October already.....
I can't believe I haven't put a post on here for 4 whole months.... time sure flies doesn't it?

Since I've got a bit of time this afternoon I'm going to schedule several posts that I should have posted over the last few months.

First on my show & tell list is the minion birthday cake I made for Master 11 back in July - I was pleased with his choice this year as it was a nice easy one to make for a change. I just used the instructions on the Betty Crocker website here, but instead of using the packet cake mix I used my tried and tested butter cake recipe.

Car Tidy

My last project from our weekend retreat was a little car tidy. There a quite a few tutorials around for this project but once again I couldn't quite find what I was after so made my own version.

This one is for my sister.....
I made her a bag out of the same fabric a while back which she just loves

I've tweaked my instructions a bit since I made this one and put a tutorial together which I'll put up tomorrow for anyone who would like to make their own.

Chevron Quilt

Another finish from our Quilting retreat..... Chevron Quilt top!

Not the best pictures... I always have trouble photographing white quilts

I think I saw a picture of one of these on Pinterest. No instructions I just pieced it together from two Heather Bailley "Fresh Cut" - 6" charm sqare packs and some white homespun... very easy, although some of those points did give me a little grief. I think it was worth it :)

Now I just have to find some backing and send it off to the quilters.

This pic that I pinched from the Club Quilt blog shows the colours much better:
